• How does corten steel grade work?
  Corten steels difer from other corosion resistant steels, in resisting the fomation of rust. Corten steel will rust, but the outer surace wil only rust. Once theouter layer of rust is fommed, the rust willl not penetrate into the corten steel. The anti-rust layer on the surace acts as a barier to prevent futher corrosion of steel. In ordinary carbon steel. the rust layer formed is porous and wil fall oft. which allows another layer to form deeper in the steel.
  Corten steel is a kind of alloy steel, which can form a relatively dense rust layer on the surface after exposure for severa years, so it does not need to be protected by paint. Diferent stainless steels can be completely rust-free. Corten steels only have surface oxidation and do not penetrate into the interior. They have corrosion protection characteristics like copper or aluminium.

Corten steel is a kind of low carbon steel, which contains other alloying elements mixed with carbon and iron atoms.Compared with typical low carbon steel grades, these alloying elements make weathering steel have better strength and corrosion resistance. Therefore, corten steel is usually used in outdoor applications or in environments where ordinary steel is prone to rust.

Note: The fire bowl is delivered without a rusted surface. However, this will develop on its own over a period of 4-5 months, depending on the weather conditions and location. For faster results, the element can be treated with a rust accelerator.
